Charles Frederick Andrews, 77, passed away on July 28, 2026, at his home in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. He was born on October 24, 1948, in Hagerstown, Maryland, to the late Charles Andrews and Ruth (Paden) Andrews.

Charles proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War as a combat medic, an experience that shaped his lifelong dedication to caring for others.

After his service, Charles began his career working in the emergency room at Washington Adventist Hospital, then went on to develop and serve as director of Hagerstown’s first detox program. He later moved to Maryland’s Eastern Shore, where he was hired as the very first CEO of Hudson Health Services, Inc. in Salisbury, Maryland (later known as Hudson Behavioral Health). He led the organization for many years, establishing its initial footprint in the region and spearheading the effort to bring the Eastern Shore’s very first residential recovery program to the area — a legacy that continued to serve the community for years to come.

Charles then moved to South Florida, a place he had long loved and spent much time throughout his life. There he explored new ventures in real estate and hotel and resort management before retiring.

Those who knew Charles remember him as fun-loving and always the life of the party, with a well-known fondness for a good gin and tonic. He had a true passion for boating and fishing, and treasured the time spent out on the water, especially with his son, Darick. He had a gift for bringing people together and made a lasting impression on everyone he met. He was loved by many and will be truly missed.

Charles is survived by his son, Darick Andrews, and granddaughter, Cameron Andrews; his sisters Duaine “Dee” (Andrews) Hull and Kay (Andrews) Barnhart; his sister and brother-in-law Karen (Andrews) Cronise and Douglas Cronise; nieces Heather (Cronise) Kendall and Jennifer (Cronise) Himrod; nephews Travis Hull, Darrin Hull, William Barnhart, Jr., Scott “Butch” Barnhart, and Eric “Pete” Barnhart; and many beloved great-nieces and great-nephews.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Jeffrey Andrews, and brothers-in-law Travis Hull and William Barnhart.

A celebration of Charles’s life will be held at a later date, at the family’s convenience, so that all who loved him may gather to honor his memory. Details will be shared when plans are finalized.
