Obituary

David M. Leerstang, beloved husband, father, son, and friend, passed away peacefully on November 19, 2025, at the age of 59 after a courageous battle with cancer.

David is survived by his wife, Chrystal, and their three sons—Daniel (11) and twins Kenneth and Lawrence (9)—who were the pride and joy of his life.

Born on September 30, 1966, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, David was the son of Susan Welch and Kenneth Leerstang. He spent his childhood in both Norman, Oklahoma, and Fort Lauderdale, Florida, where he developed lifelong passions for classic cars, ice hockey, and OU football. Throughout his life, David worked in the commercial construction field. He contributed to many projects over the years and developed professional connections across the industry. Those who knew David will remember his spirit, his resilience through adversity, and the unmistakable light in his eyes whenever he spoke about his sons. Even during the most difficult moments of his illness, his thoughts and concerns always centered on his family.

David is also survived by his mother, Susan Welch; his stepmother, Joy Leerstang; his stepbrothers, Michael Shebester and Mark Shebester; aunts and uncles Nita and Ray Hunt, and Bill and Jeane Welch; as well as many cousins, nieces, nephews, and dear friends. He was preceded in death by his father, Kenneth Leerstang, and his stepsister, Lori Carruth.

A celebration of David’s life will be held after the new year in Wilton Manors, Florida. Though his time on earth was far too short, David’s love, guidance, and legacy live on in the hearts of his wife, his sons, and all who were fortunate to know him.
