Frederic Stern, age 77, passed away on January 10, 2026, in Delray Beach, Florida. He was born on December 15, 1948.
Frederic “Freddy” was a devoted husband, brother, father, and grandfather. He is survived by his beloved wife, Karalee Stern; his daughter, Jennifer Minton, and her spouse, Derek; his sons, Michael Stern and his spouse, Nicholas Jaggers, Paul Stern, and Jonathan Stern; his cherished grandchildren, Lilah Rose and Brantley, who brought him immense joy; and his sister, Naomi Fier, and her spouse, Al. Frederic was preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Jean Stern.
Frederic was a graduate of Queens College and built a successful career as an electronics engineer, focusing on quality assurance. He was a first‑generation American from parents who immigrated from what was then Poland. Known for his intelligence and problem‑solving skills, he had a remarkable ability to fix just about anything—there was never a need to call a repair person when Freddy was around. He had a lifelong love of computers—specifically Timex Sinclairs—and was always eager to tinker, learn, and help others. The TS‑1000 and ZX‑81 computers were a big part of his life for several decades. These computers provided a foundation to teach his family about technology early on, and Freddy was an avid member as well as the newsletter editor for LIST, a Long Island Sinclair Timex group. Freddy was also a fan of science fiction and loved classics like Alien Worlds and Star Trek.
Above all, Freddy treasured time spent with his family, especially his wife, children, and grandchildren. From father‑daughter dances to being a Cub Master, he was always there for his family. He delighted in backyard barbecues, relaxing in the pool with Lilah Rose and Brantley, and sharing meals—he especially loved good food and eating out. He enjoyed fishing and traveling with his family, including annual trips to the Florida Keys, where he found peace and happiness. Freddy was always the first to volunteer to help his children, whether it was flying to D.C. or Georgia, or picking up his grandchildren from school and proudly chauffeuring them to their afternoon activities. Freddy was at nearly every sporting event, Cub Scout overnight, dance recital, baseball game, or musical concert for his children and grandchildren.
Frederic will be remembered for his devotion to his family, his ingenuity, his generosity with his time and knowledge, his personality, and the quiet pride he took in being someone others could always rely on. He leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and countless memories that will be held close by all who knew him. Every day—and often multiple times throughout the day—Freddy would tell his wife how beautiful she was. He was the kindest person, always complimenting those around him.
