George Lee

December 11, 1932 — April 15, 2026

George Lee, 93, passed away peacefully overlooking the ocean at his beach home in Florida on April 15, 2026. He was born on December 11, 1932, to Thomas and Catherine Lee.

George—affectionately known as “Stretch” by his grandsons and “Superman” by his son, John—lived a full and active life marked by service, meaningful personal and professional relationships, and a deep love for those closest to him.

George co-founded Furlong and Lee Stone Sales with his lifelong friend and business partner, Robert Furlong Sr. The Furlong side of the business was eventually passed to George’s dear friend, Robert Furlong Jr. (wife Lenore). In similar fashion, George passed his interest in Furlong and Lee to his grandson, John Lee Jr., who now carries forward the family legacy. He proudly served in the United States Navy aboard the USS Salem (CA-139), where he was assigned to Special Services and played basketball for the U.S. Navy team. His passion for athletics remained throughout his life; he was a multi-year triathlon champion, an excellent golfer, and a longtime member of the New York Athletic Club. George especially enjoyed attending Opening Day at Yankee Stadium and spending time at his lake home on Lake Wallenpaupack. He found great joy in holiday dinners at the lake, Sunday gatherings with family, and watching his grandsons and nephews play baseball.

George is survived by his beloved and devoted wife, Kathleen, with whom he shared 45 wonderful years.

He is also survived by his children: Peggy Haberer (husband Geoff), John Lee, and Eileen Nelson (husband Michael); his grandchildren: Christen Guttzeit (husband Adam), Helena Haberer, Billie Lee (wife Laura), John Lee (wife Georgia), and Michael Nelson (wife Erika); and many great-grandchildren: Dominic, John, Luka, Matthew, Rory, and Vincent.

George’s closest affine relatives were the Lewicki family. He shared a particularly close and loving bond with his sister-in-law, Janet Higgins, and brother-in-law, Paul Lewicki. He was loved and cherished dearly as “Uncle George” by Arthur and Joseph Lewicki. He loved his nieces and nephews: John Bockstege Jr., Libby Cross, Sarah Bockstege, Arthur Higgins III, and Kelly Higgins.

George was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas and Catherine Lee; his brother, Thomas Lee; his in-laws, Arthur and Helen Higgins; his daughter-in-law, Lisa Lee; and his lifelong friend, Robert Furlong Sr.

George will be remembered by his family and friends for his unwavering loyalty, deep love of family, relentless work ethic, and the relationships he forged through his exceptionally long and charmed life—not to mention his love for a cold bottle of Bud in a wine glass.

Celebration of Life details will take place in Lakeville, PA, in the coming months. Details will be forthcoming.
