Glen Rothe

May 18, 1945 — November 27, 2024

Deerfield Beach

It is with great sorrow to announce that Glen E. Rothe passed away peacefully during the early morning on Wednesday, November 27, 2024 at his home in Deerfield Beach, Florida.

Glen was born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, on May 18th, 1945, to Loretta (Pfister) and Roman Rothe. He was the youngest of four siblings that included Kathleen, Dale and Karen.

Glen graduated from Pius XI High School in Milwaukee, WI in 1963. After a few years of college and a year in Haight-Ashbury (which was an inspiration for his first book), he married his lovely wife Donna (Winkler) Rothe in 1967, and they moved to East Dundee, Illinois to start raising their family. He spent over 20 years in the airline industry, starting with United Airlines followed by stints with British Airways in London, England and Northwest Airlines in Minneapolis, MN. After a long and distinguished corporate career, Glen and his wife Donna purchased a bed and breakfast in Albany, WI, which they ran for 9 years. When their first grandchild was born, they decided to sell the B&B, purchase an RV, and travel around the United States, spending a lot of time each year near the beach in Gulf Shores, AL. After 17 years of being on the go, it was time for a permanent home, and they moved to Deerfield Beach, FL in 2020.

Glen enjoyed many things in his life including traveling, sailing, reading, and writing (he was a published author). He had a remarkable talent for fixing things and was truly the "ultimate DIYer." Whether it was home improvement projects or simply working with his hands, Glen found joy in creating and finding ways to make things better.

Glen was a force of nature, determined to provide for his family and give them the life he felt they deserved. His family meant more to him than anything else in the world, something he often mentioned. He loved his grandchildren very much and enjoyed watching them grow over the years. He especially enjoyed playing games or reading with them, along with attending their sporting events and school functions.

Glen is survived by his wife of 57 years, Donna Rothe of Deerfield Beach, FL, daughter Lisa (Margaret) of Wurtsburo, NY, sons Glen (Velvet) of Coconut Grove, FL, and David (Jennifer) of Cottage Grove, MN, and his sister Karen Rothe Osband of Eugene, OR. He is further survived by his grandchildren Evan, Noah, Ellie, and William, along with many beloved nieces and nephews.

Glen is preceded in death by his parents Loretta and Roman Rothe, brother Dale Rothe and sister Kathleen Riegg. Glen will be cremated in accordance with his wishes, and his family will honor him with a celebration of life at a future date and time.
