John F Mortin

On May 20, 2026, John Francis Mortin, loving husband and step-father passed away at the age of 73 in Pompano Beach, Florida. 

John was born on August 2,1952 in Auburn, New York. He graduated from SUNY Oswego and went on to get his master’s degree in public administration at the Maxwell School at Syracuse University. John had a 38 year career at the Government Accountability Offices in Washington, D.C. and retired as an Assistant Director of which he was very proud. 

Upon retirement, John became very passionate about nature photography, and played a decent game of golf. He also enjoyed traveling, fantasy and NFL football, and a good glass of wine. John cherished his relationships with his kids, his Florida condo family, his high school Zoom buddies, and his Canadian best friends. He will be remembered for his gentle nature, and by his family for his goofiness and unwavering support. 

John is survived by his loving wife Michele; stepchildren Kara (Ethan), Andrea, and Michael (Hope); grandchildren Logan and Lily; cousin Kathy Slack (Jim), and grandpup Delilah. 

In honor of John’s vibrant yet relaxed nature, there will not be a formal funeral. Instead, we ask that all who knew John celebrate his life in a way they see fit to complement their memories of him. Take some photos of Mother Nature, play a game of golf, toast with a glass of wine, sing a Beatles tune - celebrate him in your heart, and smile when you think of him.
