Michael Joseph Ventura

Michael Joseph Ventura passed away peacefully in his home in Jupiter, [Tequesta] Florida on January 5, 2024 at the age of 72. Mike, (Mickey to his family), was born in Newark, New Jersey on October 4, 1951. He is survived by his sisters, Susan Durre’ and Ellen DeStefano, brother-in-law Dennis DeStefano, nieces Christa Durre’, Alyson DeStefano, Cassandra DeStefano, Chelsea Hartman, and nephew Shane DeStefano. He was preceded in death by his mother and father, Sophia and Michael Ventura.

His childhood in New Jersey instilled in him a lifelong passion for plants. He attended Rutgers University, graduating with honors (Cum Laude) in 1973 with a B.S. in Plant Science/Horticulture and Turf Grass. While there, he lived in “Hellyar House” on Cook Campus, a co-op residence for Agriculture and Environmental Science students. He moved from New Jersey to San Diego after college, and after 20 years, moved to Florida. He enjoyed a lifelong career in Golf Course Management, working internationally in over twenty countries. He was a Class A member of GCSAA (Golf Course Superintendents Association of America).

A long-time Tequesta, Florida resident, “Ace” was an avid tennis player, and a member of the Heritage Oaks Racquet Club in Tequesta. He won more than thirty local championships during his lifetime, and enjoyed his new friends and tennis partners. His second love was fishing and enjoyed fishing wherever his travels took him.
