In Loving Memory of Orlando Barriga

It is with heavy hearts and profound sadness that we announce the passing of Orlando Barriga, who peacefully departed from this world on January 11, 2024. Orlando left us after a fulfilled life surrounded by precious moments and quality time.

Born on June 19, 1945, Orlando was a 78-year-old son, brother, spouse, father, grandfather, and friend to many. Orlando was born in Bogota, Colombia, and he spent his life making a lasting impact on all who had the privilege of knowing him.

In his early twenties, Orlando was an active member in the well-known bands Los Flippers and Los Beatniks, writing several Garage Punk Colombian songs, playing in many night clubs and cities, being on daily TV shows, and producing many records.

After arriving in the United States in the late 60’s, Orlando mastered the English language in New York City and learned more about the service business. Shortly thereafter in the mid-70’s in Boston, Orlando met his wife, Diane. Orlando went on to build a successful automotive and tow truck business in South Florida, raised two beautiful daughters, and spent his retired years traveling the world and making memories with his family.

Family was paramount to Orlando, and his love and devotion knew no bounds. Orlando is preceded in death by his father, Alvaro Barriga, and mother, Aura Vega. He is survived by his sister Nohora Hernandez (Rodrigo Hernandez), former spouse Diane Barriga, daughters Samantha Raulerson (Keith Raulerson) and Ashley Lategan (Devon Lategan) and grandchildren Waylon Raulerson, Emily Raulerson, Madeline Raulerson, Aria Lategan, and Lucy Lategan. Orlando’s memory will forever be cherished by his family.

Whether it was playing music, engaging in deep research and discussions on science, politics or religion, or spending quality time with his family and friends, Orlando’s love for learning, healthy living, science, music, and traveling, was generously shared with those around him. He had a warm, welcoming, deep spirit that drew people in, making friends easily and leaving a lasting impression on everyone he encountered. Orlando’s legacy is one of unwavering strength, compassion, love, and commitment to living a fulfilled life.

A memorial service and celebration of life will be held later this year, at a date, time, and location to be determined. Family and friends will be invited to celebrate Orlando’s life, share stories, and find solace in each other's company.

Orlando’s spirit will live on in all of the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to share in his journey, and his legacy will never be forgotten.
