Shevauna Kerin Dumay

Shevauna Kerin Dumay was born on July 7, 2001, to Lancel and Lurline in New York City, following her brother, Sashion, who was 15 years her senior. She grew to love leisure reading, listening to new songs, and, in her words, “whipping up new creations in the kitchen.” Shevauna loved her food. She thoroughly enjoyed her formative years and, as she grew up, demonstrated academic prowess and developed her social and interpersonal skills while embracing her civic responsibilities.

She eventually graduated from Inlet Grove High School in 2019. Remarkably, as she earned her high school diploma, Shevauna had already graduated magna cum laude from Palm Beach State Community College (PBSC) (weeks earlier), having earned her associate degree in Political Science. Moreover, she was also already attending the University of Florida, where her classes had already begun.

As she exited Inlet Grove, Shevauna’s high school diploma was no ordinary diploma. She earned a Seal of Biliteracy, a Merit Designation, and a Scholar Designation on her diploma. She was president of the National Honor Society and was in the top 10% of her senior class.

At PBSC, Shevauna was a part of the Student Government Association Legislative Branch (Senator), a member of the Rho Kappa Social Studies Honor Society, and a member of the Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society. She also received the prestigious Alfred P. Nelson Endowed Scholarship for Excellence in Education.

As the consummate scholar, Shevauna went on to further studies at the University of Florida, Gainesville, where she earned her Bachelor of Science, summa cum laude, in Public Relations in August 2020. She took a gap year working in Public Relations and later entered the University of Miami School of Law in Coral Gables. There, in May 2024, she earned her Juris Doctor degree.

Shevauna was the deserving recipient of many scholarships. In March 2022, she was awarded the Judge Lody Jean Scholarship, and was the recipient of the William M. Holland Scholarship in February 2024.

During her years of study, Shevauna worked at several legal organizations in various capacities. For example, Smith, Ball, Báez & Prather Florida Injury Lawyers, University of Miami School of Law - Children & Youth Law Clinic, Beaulieu-Fawcett | Newell Law Group, P.A and more recently, Cole, Scott, & Kissane, P.A.

Shevauna was not all about studying for her benefit or working for compensation. While in college, she served in various roles in student government bodies—as a student ambassador and a student associate. She also voluntarily committed many long hours to various projects, including the Community Law Program, The Office of New Americans of Miami-Dade, Christ Fellowship, food pantries/food banks, ABA Coalition on Racial & Ethnic Justice, Disability Independence Group, Inc., Feeding South Florida, Florida Rights Restoration Coalition, and Big Brothers Big Sisters of Palm Beach and Martin Counties.

She was also a participant in the Black Law Association and was involved in pro bono projects focused on the school-to-prison pipeline and gathering and tracking legislation related to juvenile law and mandates for correctional facilities.

On Friday, June 5, 2026, Shevauna Kerin Dumay went home to be with the Lord. She leaves behind her mom, dad, big brother, fiancé, aunts, an uncle, cousins, and other relatives, and friends. She was predeceased by Gerard Richardson, who cared for her well as a stepdad and whom she loved dearly.
