William Clifton Chavis

William "Freddie" C Chavis, Jr, formerly of Galloway, NJ passed away unexpectedly at his home in Lauderdale by the Sea, FL on May 27th, 2023, at the age of 58. Born in Philadelphia, PA he is predeceased by his parents, Annette (Bayton) and William C Chavis, Sr. Freddie was raised in Atlantic City, NJ, where he graduated from Our Lady Star of the Sea School and attended North Carolina Central University. He is survived by his wife Jill (Bonin), his 2 children, William C Chavis, III and LaToya Chavis Tolbert-Thomas, and one grandson. In addition, Aunts Agnes James and Marie Bateman both of Atlantic City, NJ, and Uncle Joe Chavis of Philadelphia, PA. He will be missed by many cousins - the Chavis, Landing, Bateman, Johnson, and Richardson families - as well as his extended family and many friends.

He worked in IT departments in and around the casino industry for many years. Starting in NJ, his career led him to Missouri, Mississippi, California, the Bahamas, and Florida where he was the Director of IT at Calder Casino and Race Course in Miami Gardens.

William had been a member of the Azure Temple #38 Free and Accepted Masons of Atlantic City, NJ, as well as involved with committees and local groups around the area. Throughout his life he was an avid bowler and baller (basketball), who loved corvettes, motorcycles, and fishing. While a diehard Eagles fan, he did also follow all the Philadelphia sport teams and many college football and basketball events.

The family has requested in lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Susan G Komen Breast Cancer Foundation.

A gathering to remember him (memorial repast) will be held at the All Wars Memorial Building (Soldiers Home - 1510 Adriatic Ave, Atlantic City, NJ) on Sunday, July 16th from 1p-5p.
